Dear John,
Like the year before it, 2021 has not been easy for any of us. The pandemic, climate issues, racial justice, and economic instability have led to uncertainty to the best paths forward for ourselves, our communities, and future generations.

What hasn’t changed is the importance of the places we love, the places we spend time with our family and friends, and the places we go to reconnect with ourselves and what we care about. Instead, these places have become more important to preserve than ever and Save The Waves has continued to show up, looking towards our goal of protecting 1,000 surf ecosystems by 2030.

Together, with our amazing partners on the ground, we helped PROTECT 25 surf ecosystems, created new protected areas in Mexico, and laid key groundwork in places like Costa Rica and the Azores.

We reached over 35 countries with our Save The Waves App to monitor and STEWARD coastlines in need.

Plus, our staff led and supported critical campaign work in Oaxaca, Mexico; Katoku, Japan; and The Maldives to DEFEND endangered waves.

We couldn’t have accomplished this valuable work without the support of our Coalition members. You have helped us make an impact and, for that, we are truly grateful.

Yet, 2021 was also a year of deep introspection. We have long-integrated sea level rise and coastal resilience into our work, but now is the time to act and take our pledge a step further. At this profound moment in history, every conservation organization must become a climate organization. Therefore, Save The Waves is leveraging our staff, programs and tools to put climate change front and center in our work, in every place we work.

This is where we need you: we have set an ambitious target of raising $50,000 by the end of the year to focus on, combat and challenge the effects of climate change in the new year.

Take action and be a part of this next big phase by making a meaningful contribution.
