Lt. Gov Dan Patrick

Fix our broken bail system

From 2020 to 2021, there has been a 35% increase in homicides in Houston, our largest city. From January to July alone, Austin's homicide rate was already 68% higher than the year-to-date last year. San Antonio also saw an increase in homicides.

Despite this rise in crime nationwide and throughout the state, Democrats have not stopped their destructive policies. Not only do they continue to call for defunding the police, but our 'soft on crime' judges are letting criminals out on bond to commit even more crimes.

We have seen instances like this happen far too often. On Thanksgiving Day 2017, Texas State Trooper Damon Allen was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop. The killer was out on a $15,000 bond, despite his violent history against law enforcement and other crimes. In August 2019, a Houston woman was stabbed to death by her husband who was out on bail. These are just two of many senseless murders that have happened because of our broken bail system.

This year, we passed landmark bail reform legislation to keep dangerous criminals off the streets and behind bars. The Damon Allen Act prohibits violent offenders or repeat offenders from being released on personal bonds and mandates judges to consider the offender's criminal history before setting bail.

Our socialist, left-wing judges are putting our communities at risk when they let violent criminals out to roam the streets rather than being placed behind bars. There have been 153 people murdered in Harris County in the last 18 months by felons out on low or no bail.

Having a broken bail system puts the public at risk and makes our communities more dangerous. We need to make sure we vote out these radical 'soft on crime' judges in 2022 and support judges who will uphold the rule of law to keep our communities safe.

In Texas, we are turning conservative policy into conservative legislation. The Democrats are trying to defeat me at the ballot box because of this, and they will stop at nothing to defeat me in 2022. I hope I can count on your financial support of $5-10-25 or more today.
