Dear John,
Are you an exemplary K–12 classroom teacher who prioritizes equity and social justice? Do you know someone who is? We want to hear from you!
You can apply or nominate someone for the biennial Teaching Tolerance Award for Excellence in Teaching through December 8, 2019, at midnight (CST). We know teachers in the TT community are doing transformative anti-bias work across the country—and we want to hear about it.
The award honors five K–12 classroom teachers who demonstrate excellence in teaching practices that align with the Teaching Tolerance Social Justice Standards. The goals of these standards are to help students:
- cultivate positive views of themselves;
- treat each other with kindness and appreciate different perspectives;
- recognize and think critically about injustice;
- develop the skills and desire to take action against injustice.
The achievement of these goals will be evaluated through the categories of instruction, classroom management, family and community engagement, and teacher leadership.
Teaching Tolerance will select award winners based on their demonstrated skills in these areas. Over the course of the award’s two-year tenure, awardees will showcase their teaching practices and contribute to TT programming. Award winners will be announced in May 2020. Each awardee will receive a $5,000 cash award and travel to Montgomery, Alabama, for a celebration in October 2020.
If you have questions regarding the Teaching Tolerance Award, email them to [email protected].
Thanks for all you do for students.
