Dear Jack,


In the early hours of this morning, it felt almost hard to believe that a year ago there was no such party as Reform UK. 
 
As ballot after ballot was counted in Old Bexley and Sidcup, many reflecting a level of support we haven’t seen before, one thing became very apparent—Reform UK is now the only credible alternative to the main two Westminster parties. British politics is becoming a three-horse race.
 
Now anybody who knows anything about Westminster by-elections will tell you that they are a tough environment within which to make a breakthrough. Yet, we managed to come third out of eleven candidates. Our vote share was nearly the same as the Green Party (who came 4th) and the Lib Dems (who came 5th) combined. These are parties who have been campaigning on the streets for years, and yet in our first attempt we leapfrogged them both, being one of only three parties to retain their deposit.

Whichever way you look at it, last night was a very good night for our young party and has laid a real foundation upon which we can build for the future—the next step of which is developing as we speak on the streets of North Shropshire.
 
On a personal note, I want to say a massive thank you to everybody who came to help me campaign over the last five weeks. Pounding the streets and knocking on doors is particularly challenging when it’s so cold, and yet the spirits of so many of you during our campaign has lifted everybody, including those voters for whom Reform UK is now a real political home.
 
After allowing myself a (very) small sleep, I shall be heading to North Shropshire at the start of next week to spend the majority of the next fortnight supporting our incredible candidate there, Kirsty Walmsley. I cannot think of anybody better to maintain and increase the momentum that we now have off the back of an excellent result.
