Governor DeWine Appoints Five to Fill Judicial Vacancies
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)?Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced five appointments to fill judicial vacancies. He appointed Cornelius J. O'Sullivan to serve as a judge on the Eighth District Court of Appeals; Kenneth R. Callahan, Wanda C. Jones, and Mark R. Majer to each serve as judges on the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas; and Sergio I. DiGeronimo, to serve as a judge on the Garfield Heights Municipal Court.

O'Sullivan, of Lakewood, will assume office on Dec. 15, 2021 on the Eighth District Court of Appeals?and will be filling the vacancy left by Judge Larry Jones who died.?O'Sullivan must run for election in November 2022 to complete the unexpired term ending Feb. 9, 2027.
O'Sullivan most recently worked as a civil trial attorney, mediator, and arbitration chairman for Weston Hurd LLP, where he was a partner. In his prior position, he was a senior litigation attorney, where he handled major cases for CNA Insurance for 15 years.?
O'Sullivan received his law degree from Cleveland State University's Marshall College of Law, where he was?an editor of the Cleveland State Law Review, and his undergraduate degree from the John Carroll University. ??
He currently is a certified mediator, Partner in Justice with the Legal Aid Society, director of Flock Community Meals, and a member of St. Edward High's Alumni Board of Directors. In the past, he was president of the Cleveland Association of Civil Trial Attorneys and Legal Eagles, and chairman of Mayors Task Force on Winterhurst.

Callahan, of University Heights, will assume office on Dec. 15, 2021 on the?Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and will be replacing Judge Nancy McDonnell who died.?Callahan must run for election in November 2022 to complete the unexpired term ending Jan. 3, 2027.
Callahan has served as an Of Counsel for Mansour Gavin LPA for over one year. Prior to that position, he served primarily as a litigation lawyer at Collins and Scanlon, as well as Buckley King LPA.
He was also previously appointed to a vacancy in the General Division of the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.?He was elected in 1994, 1996 and 2002 and left the bench after 16 years of service.
Callahan received his law degree from Cleveland State University's Marshall College of Law, and undergraduate degree from John Carroll University.
In the past, he served as the president of the Cleveland Civil War Roundtable, Cleveland Catholic Lawyer?s Guild, and Manos Inn of Court. He also was a part of the Common Pleas Court Civil Rules Committee and Criminal Rules Committee and was vice-chair of the Judicial Selection Committee for the Cleveland Bar Association.

Jones, of Solon, will assume office on Dec. 20, 2021?on the?Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and will be taking the seat formerly held by Judge Joseph D. Russo, who died.?Jones must run for election in November 2022 to complete the unexpired term ending Dec. 31, 2024.
Jones previously served as a judge for the Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court for two years before starting as Assistant Attorney General in the Ohio Attorney General?s Office. She also has experience as a Principal at Axner & Jones LLP, and as an account manager, recovery specialist, and SAR analyst at MBNA Marketing Systems (Bank of America).
Jones received her law degree from Cleveland State University?s Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and undergraduate degree from Ursuline College.
She currently is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association, Ohio Black Judges Association, and Solon City Schools PTA. Additionally, she has volunteered as a judge for Cleveland Marshall College of Law?s Moot Court and High School Mock Trial.

Majer, of Gates Mills, will assume office on Jan. 3, 2021 on the?Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas and will be replacing Judge Dick Ambrose who is retiring at the end of the year. Majer must run for election in November 2022 to retain the seat.
Majer has served as magistrate at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court since 2020 and served previously in this role from 1999-2005. Additionally, he was chief legal counsel for the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court for five years.?
He also worked as prosecutor for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor?s Office for six years.?
Majer received his law degree from Ohio Northern University?s Claude W. Pettit College of Law, and undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University.
He is a certified mediator by the Supreme Court of Ohio and spent time serving on the Board of Directors for the Cuyahoga County Bar Association. He recently served as a representative for Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court?s Cultural Competency Committee, United States Marshalls Safe Surrender Project, and United States Attorney Anti-Gang Task Force and was a member of the Prevention Committee.

DiGeronimo, of Brecksville, will assume office on Dec. 20, 2021 on the Garfield Heights Municipal Court?and will be filling a judicial vacancy once held by Judge Jennifer Weiler who retired.?DiGeronimo must run for election in November 2023 to retain the seat.
DiGeronimo has served as the prosecutor and assistant law director for the City of Brecksville since 1998, and prior to that, spent time as an assistant to City of Brecksville Prosecutor Roger A. Wadsworth.?
Throughout his professional career, he has worked as an attorney at law representing individuals and corporate clients.
DiGeronimo received his law degree from Case Western Reserve University?s School of Law, and undergraduate degree from Baldwin-Wallace College.
