Hi John,

One of the key backers of the Cambo oil field, Shell, just pulled out! It turns out Cambo is bad for business. It’s a disaster for our planet too, and it’s time for Boris Johnson to act now.

The PM has made grand speeches about the UK being a climate leader - but his words ring empty if he lets Cambo go ahead. It goes against the science calling for an end to new oil and gas and sends a signal to the rest of the world that the UK government is all talk when it comes to the climate crisis. [2] Boris Johnson should be delivering a just transition to renewable energy - not allowing new oil and gas projects to go ahead.

It’s headline news: “Shell pulls out of Cambo oil field project”. [1]

Let’s get the government to follow suit and stop Cambo and all new oil and gas projects immediately. 170,000 people have signed the petition, will you join them?

At COP26 Boris Johnson demanded climate action from world leaders. He went on to remind them that, “We are covering the earth in a suffocating blanket of CO2”. [3]

Sounds about right - the oil produced from the Cambo oil field would create climate pollution equal to 18 coal-fired power plants running for a year, while leaving households exposed to volatile energy prices and price hikes. Politicians across the divide from Nicola Sturgeon to Keir Starmer and even a member of the PM’s own party have called on him to Stop Cambo. [4] With Shell backing out surely Boris Johnson sees the writing on the wall?

If enough of us speak out about Cambo, Boris Johnson will have to seriously consider putting an end to this project and new oil and gas for good.
