In 2018, I was an underdog candidate running against an incumbent Republican Congressman. As a 20-year veteran of the Navy, I’m no stranger to tough fights so I took that challenge head-on.

Poll after poll had me down in the run up to Election Day. But we didn’t give up -- and thanks to the hard work of thousands of grassroots Democrats to organize in every corner of the district, we beat the odds and WON by just over two points.

But it’s one thing to run as a first-time candidate who’s under the radar -- it’s a completely different story when you’re a Democratic congresswoman defending an R+1 district when Republicans are just five seats away from winning a House majority.

Now I’ve been named as a top target for national Republicans, and dark money groups have already launched multiple dishonest attack ads against me.
