A.,

This week, indirect nuclear talks with Iran resumed in Vienna.

The latest from the talks: Iranian negotiators reportedly presented maximalist positions that set back progress made in previous negotiations. The nuclear negotiators for the E3 – France, Germany and the U.K. – reportedly said Iran’s opening proposals were

unserious and unacceptable .

-
The E3 diplomat said the draft on sanctions relief was extreme and maximalist, with the Iranians increasing their sanctions relief demands.
At the same time, Iran aggressively continued its march toward a nuclear weapons capability, beginning the process of

enriching uranium with advanced centrifuges at its Fordow plant.

Our view: Talks

cannot stretch on endlessly. Iran has a long history of using talks to stall for time while it attempts to lock in nuclear advances.

-
Iran must face increased pressure in light of its nuclear advances, regional aggression and the lack of progress in talks.

-
The regime in Tehran has a track record of only making concessions when it faces regime-threatening economic pressures or a credible threat of military force. Neither condition exists today.
The bottom line: The United States must not succumb to the regime's blackmail.

U.N. General Assembly Ignores Jewish Ties to Temple Mount in Latest Attack Against Israel

This week, the U.N. General Assembly adopted a resolution ignoring the Jewish connection to the Temple Mount—Judaism's holiest site.

-
The resolution text, referred to as the "Jerusalem resolution," is part of a push by the Palestinian Authority and the Arab states across the U.N. system to rebrand Judaism’s most holy site as an exclusively Islamic one.
This is just the latest attack on Israel at the U.N.

America's view: The U.S. opposed the text and said that the omission of inclusive terminology for the site sacred to three faiths was of "real and serious concern."

-
"It is morally, historically and politically wrong for the Assembly to support language that denies both the Jewish and Muslim connections to the Temple Mount and Haram al‑Sharif," the U.S. representative
[link removed]
said during the debate. The bottom line: Attempting to erase 3,000 years of continuous Jewish connection to Jerusalem does nothing to advance peace.

Reps. Gregory Meeks, Michael McCaul, Ted Deutch and Joe Wilson introduced bipartisan legislation this week to clarify that U.S. sanctions on Iran’s conventional weapons program include the supply, sale or transfer to or from Iran of unmanned combat aerial vehicles.

-
The legislation also states that it is U.S. policy to prevent Iran and Iranian-aligned groups from acquiring unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that can be used in attacks against the United States or our partners.
Why is this legislation important? Iran is the principal obstacle to peace and security in the Middle East.

-
The regime uses advanced attack drones to target American troops and our allies.
