Dear Friend,
This week, my family celebrates Hanukkah, when we bring light into darkness during the Festival of Lights. The holiday has multiple meanings, celebrating the miracle of the menorah lit by the Maccabees that lasted for eight days.
My family’s Hanukkah traditions include lighting this menorah, which my grandparents hid during the Holocaust. After they survived (a story I tell here ([link removed]) in remarks to the Air Force Academy), my grandfather returned to Poland to retrieve this menorah and other family heirlooms. My family and I honor my grandparents—and our family traditions—by lighting this menorah each year.

One important Hanukkah tradition is eating latkes (potato pancakes). Another is giving gelt, or money, to friends and family. For this year’s Hanukkah, I would appreciate your generosity, helping us reach our year-end goal and contributing to our Hanukkah giving challenge ([link removed]) .
