Alabama is at a crossroads. Which future will we choose?

The COVID-19 pandemic has created enormous new challenges for Alabamians, while shining a harsh light on long-neglected ones. To strengthen and expedite recovery, the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), enacted in March 2021, is pumping $4 billion into Alabama’s economy over the next three years. Other new laws are making even more resources available.

For the first time in memory, we have the money needed to solve some chronic problems, modernize our public services and create a better Alabama for all. Funding at this scale can be transformative for our state — but only if we take a transformative approach to how we spend it.

Alabama Arise has created a toolkit to help policymakers and the people they serve take full advantage of this historic opportunity. It includes informative resources from Arise, partner groups and federal and state agencies. It also includes a feedback form where you can share your ideas for ways that ARPA funds can support lasting change in your community.

Please use the toolkit to expand your own sense of what's possible. Use it to start constructive conversations in your circles. And use it to call on our lawmakers to step up and go big.

The chance to make far-reaching and lasting change in Alabama doesn't come often. With your help and your advocacy, our state can and will rise to the challenge!
