Right-wing justices appointed by Donald Trump and enabled by Mitch McConnell's power grabs are decimating abortion rights. Republicans stole and seized a majority on the Supreme Court—and its new Trump-appointed justices appear poised to overturn Roe v. Wade or at least significantly limit abortion rights in the United States.¹

The Supreme Court heard arguments yesterday in a case challenging an unconstitutional Mississippi law that directly threatens Roe v. Wade. And it comes amid yet another week in which the Supreme Court is allowing Texas’ baldly unconstitutional six-week abortion ban to remain in effect, which has forced Texans to travel as far as Maine to protect their freedom and self determination and obtain an abortion rather than be forced by the government to give birth.^2,3

If the Supreme Court overturns Roe, 26 states are certain or likely to ban legal abortion.⁴

The Trump Supreme Court threatens the future of abortion rights, voting rights, civil rights, and more. Democrats must pass the Judiciary Act of 2021 and expand the Supreme Court in order to rebalance it.

An overwhelming majority of Americans support access to safe, legal abortion. But the Supreme Court, which Republicans have packed with right-wing ideologues, are on the verge of gutting reproductive justice.

This is the culmination of a decades-long, massively funded campaign by the far right to pack the courts with anti-abortion extremists. It is a direct result of Mitch McConnell breaking Senate rules to ram through the Supreme Court confirmations of Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett.

President Biden and Senate Democrats must appoint new justices and expand the Supreme Court in order to rebalance it against the stolen seats and unprecedented right-wing power grabs. This will help the fight for abortion rights, voting rights, regulations on corporate power, and more. Democrats in the House and Senate have introduced the Judiciary Act of 2021 to expand and rebalance the court—and more Democrats need to sign on to this legislation and pass it quickly.
