Dear neighbor:
Together with President Biden, House Democrats have been hard at work to defeat COVID and lower costs for families – putting more vaccines in arms and money in pockets across the country. I am pleased President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal is now law and will create millions of jobs, shorten commutes, repair bridges, and make roads safer. I’m also thrilled the House has passed the Build Back Better Act to make bold investments to tackle the climate crisis, provide universal pre-k, lower prescription drug costs, and extend the transformational tax cuts for families with children. The Senate must deliver for working families by passing the Build Back Better Act.
As we continue to encounter new challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am committed to providing you with key updates to help keep you and your families informed. A new COVID-19 variant – the Omicron variant – has been designated by the World Health Organization as a “variant of concern.” As we wait for more data, there are important steps we can all take to protect our community. The best way to protect yourself from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, and get your booster shot. The CDC is now recommending booster shots for all eligible adults.
The COVID pandemic has proved how important access to quality health care is. The open enrollment period to sign up for or renew your health care coverage through Covered California is now through January 31st, 2022. Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, Covered California is able to offer record low costs on quality, name-brand health insurance plans to eligible Californians. To find a plan that works for you and your family, please go to coveredca.com.
COVID-19 Updates
It’s not clear yet whether Omicron is more transmissible or causes more severe cases compared to other variants. The LA County Department of Public Health continues to track all variant vases in LA County and is closely monitoring the development of the new variant. Once again – the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from COVID is to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, and get your booster shot when eligible. The CDC is now recommending that all adults get a COVID-19 booster shot at least six months after their second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, or at least two months after their single Johnson & Johnson dose. For booster shot locations near you, please visit VaccinateLACounty.com.

For all those celebrating, I wish you a safe and joyous Hanukkah.
Stay safe.

Ted W. Lieu Member of Congress
