“Not again.” That was my first thought the moment I heard that 25,000 gallons of oil had spilled into coastal waters, contaminating Huntington and Newport Beaches in early October. Two weeks ago, when I heard reports of *another* leak in the water off of Huntington Beach, it felt like déjà vu. Enough is enough, friend. It’s past time to stop offshore drilling. The only way we truly prevent these types of oil spills is for our country to shift away from our dependence on fossil fuels and transition to clean, renewable energy. Will you sign our petition demanding our clean energy future start now? |

Whether it’s an oil spill of 25,000 gallons like in October or residual oil that turned out to be mostly a big scare two weeks ago, we can’t continue to live in constant fear that an environmental catastrophe could happen at any moment. No amount of regulation can make oil drilling completely safe, friend. We know the solution: move off fossil fuels in favor of a clean energy economy. What we lack is the political will from our elected officials to make it happen. The U.S. Senate must follow the House’s lead and pass bold climate legislation like the Build Back Better Act, which will spur our transition to clean, renewable energy and ban new offshore oil and gas leases along the Pacific Coast. And here in California, we need the state legislature to find its climate courage to stand up to corporate polluters and pass far-reaching climate and clean energy legislation. We haven’t passed meaningful climate policy since 2018, and the climate crisis is only getting worse. Friend, the transition to a clean energy future may seem daunting, but I am hopeful about what we can accomplish. Only 100 corporations are responsible for 71% of the planet's industrial emissions. They want us to feel overwhelmed and discouraged, but your voice and your will matter. Our elected leaders need to know we care. Add your name to our petition to show lawmakers the power behind this clean energy movement → |

If we don’t act, we’ll keep seeing this same situation again and again, and our children and grandchildren will pay the price for generations to come. Thank you for being in this critical fight with us, friend. In solidarity, Mike Young Political & Organizing Director California Environmental Voters (formerly CLCV) |
