Aggie & Paula: How Two Cows Helped Each Other Heal

When Paula took her first steps out onto pasture, her new friend Aggie stayed at her right-the side where Paula is missing an eye. But this wasn't a one-sided relationship: Aggie needed Paula, and Paula needed Aggie. Each came to Sanctuary alone, afraid, and yearning for companionship. Together, they helped each other heal.

Jenny Pig: Abandoned in a Pet Crate, Now Part of a Family

Jenny pressed her snout against the walls of the pet carrier, choking for a breath of fresh air. Cars whirred past. Few saw the crate on the side of the road. Finally, someone stopped; a cat rescuer who was always looking for strays-and cat carriers. She definitely didn't expect the small box already had her next rescue inside.

For the Love of Biscuit: Teen Helps Sheep Find Sanctuary

A teenager was supposed to be shopping for a car, but wound up taking home a pint-sized ram-the sheep kind, not the truck kind. She found the little lamb while exploring
the pop-up car lot that was held at the same place as the local animal auction. Biscuit was huddled alone and trembling with fear. The teen knew what had to be done.

Susan & June B. Free: Lone Survivors of Massive Slaughterhouse Escape

On a late June evening, 40 cows escaped a slaughterhouse and ran for their lives through the streets near Los Angeles. Video shows them lost and terrified. As their escape unfolded in real-time, everyone could see them as living, breathing, and feeling-and people cheered for their freedom.
