John, after hearing oral arguments in a case challenging Mississippi's extreme abortion ban, a majority of conservative Supreme Court justices appear likely to significantly weaken reproductive freedoms or let states erode them altogether.
This is appalling, and it's scary. When I served in the Iowa House, I was horrified to see legislators playing doctor and controlling women's health care decisions in our state. I'm equally horrified to see the U.S. Supreme Court doing the same. To those across the country who would be impacted by this potential blow to Roe v. Wade, I want you to know that I'm with you. I fought for our right to choose in the statehouse in Iowa and in Congress, and I will do the same as the next U.S. senator for Iowa.
I also want you to know I am more resolved than ever to defeat Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and pass legislation in Congress that will protect our right to choose.
You see, Sen. Grassley has tried to overturn Roe v. Wade and erode reproductive justice for his entire career. Not only that, but as the former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he was instrumental in ramming through the Trump-appointed justices who expressed hostility to abortion rights just yesterday. It is no exaggeration to say that Sen. Grassley has a direct role in putting Roe v. Wade on life support.
But, John, there's hope: We may not be able to depend on the courts to protect our right to choose, but Congress has the power to pass legislation that would codify Roe v. Wade into law – enshrining a woman's right to choose, no matter what, at the federal level. That's why I'm counting on this team to rise to this moment and join me in protecting our constitutional right to choose. I've put this petition together and need 5,000 signatures before midnight tonight. Will you add your name?
Please, add your name to demand Congress take action to enshrine a woman's right to choose into law. In times like these, we've got to band together and fight with everything we've got. I'm not giving up, but I can't win without strong grassroots support from people like you.

With so much gratitude for everything you do,
Abby
