In 2021, our data was seen by millions of users, both on our site and on other outlets like Ballotpedia that display our data. (Over 2.28 million unique visitors, to be precise). This year, we made Virginia our 10th state in response to inquiries about the battleground state-level elections that were set to take place in 2021. For Transparency USA, adding Virginia was a proof-of-concept opportunity. Would readers actually use that data if we made it available? As it turns out, people were very interested.

We saw journalists, candidates, donors, and voters alike use our data for their own purposes. From all ends of the political spectrum, users cited our data as their source for following the money in state politics, culminating in an election month surge of 435,600+ unique visitors in November alone. (Huge, for content that’s not exactly click-bait fodder.) More people than ever are paying attention to what’s happening on the state-level stage.

Concept, proven. We can’t wait to show you what’s next.
