Commentary: Rhode Islanders need relief from rising cost of living

"The state treasurer suggests giving grocery gift cards to households making less than $125,000 a year is one way to support families until prices normalize"

READ THE OP-ED

Team,

Rhode Islanders urgently need relief from the rising cost of living. Right now, even Rhode Islanders with good-paying jobs are getting squeezed by rising prices in food, essential goods and housing - just about everything.

Over the past year, the Consumer Price Index has risen by 6.2% and while prices are increasing, wages are not keeping up. We need to take action now to help Rhode Islanders keep up with the rising cost of living.

In addition to taking immediate action to help people buy groceries and toys for the holidays, our campaign has a plan to help Rhode Islanders save money by reducing prescription drug costs, bringing down utility bills, expanding down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers, building more affordable housing, and making child care and higher education more affordable.

I'm ready to get to work as Governor to build an economy that works for everyone. You can read my op-ed in the Boston Globe to learn more about my plan to address the rising cost of living.
