Yesterday we witnessed an extraordinary moment in U.S. history:
The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in
Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization, a case that presents conservatives with the chance to overturn
Roe v. Wade and end abortion rights as we know them.
And for the first time, a majority of the Court appeared brazenly ready to do it.
Despite 50 years of precedent protecting reproductive freedom, public opinion strongly in favor of abortion rights, and millions of lives at stake, the Court’s extreme right-wing majority signaled its eagerness to do what the conservative movement has fought for for decades —
and that’s to overturn Roe, end safe and legal abortion, and to have a wealthy, white minority in this country hold the power to choose who makes decisions and who has decisions made for them. The stolen Court is completely unburdened by any sense of shame or justice — a direct extension of the Republican Party that stole two seats to take control of it.
This blatantly partisan Court has lost all credibility and shows no signs of stopping its assault on our fundamental rights and democracy. The only way to stop them is to add seats and take back our rights.

During yesterday's arguments, Justice Sonia Sotomayor asked if the Court would 'survive the stench' if it overturns
Roe.
Let’s be clear: The Supreme Court is prepared to hand over control of our bodies, our dreams, and our futures to anti-abortion politicians. We can’t just stand by as these hyper-conservative justices strip us of our rights. They’ve already shown us who they are and what’s at stake.
In 2021 alone, this Court has further gutted the Voting Rights Act, made elections easier to buy, weakened workers’ right to organize, blocked President Biden’s pandemic eviction moratorium, reinstated Donald Trump’s cruel 'Remain in Mexico’ policy, and allowed Texas’s draconian abortion ban to go into effect.
At this point there’s no sense in debating the finer points of a strategy to contain them. The only way to stop this activist wing of the Republican Party is to add seats to the Court. We have a plan to do it, but we need resources now in order to make it a reality in 2022.
