Stacey Abrams just announced that she is running for Governor of Georgia!!

And just like when Democracy for America went all-in for Stacey Abrams in May of 2017 before her historic campaign officially launched, we are going all-in for her campaign from the start again.

Throughout Stacey’s last campaign, DFA members were with her lockstep, helping to significantly expand the electorate and demonstrate what's possible when authentic candidates welcome new voters into the political process with a powerful progressive vision.

• Trained nearly 100 on-the-ground Electoral Leaders, and hosted multiple DFA Campaign Academies with dozens of top local leaders, organizing ahead of the primary and general elections.

• With the generous backing of over 21,000 grassroots donations, DFA raised over $250,000 for her campaign, with an average contribution of just $12.

2018 made clear that Stacey has what it takes to win her critical race next year and bring about real, meaningful change for the people of Georgia in 2022.

Following their stunning 2020 defeat in Georgia, Republicans intensified their work to suppress votes of people of color because they're worried about losing the Governor's race and progressives racking up even more wins in 2022.

We must remember this is exactly how and why Jim Crow was imposed in the first place. After the Civil War, Black leaders rose to positions of power in the South and vowed to fight for economic and racial justice. The white power structure fought back -- and used violence as well as the legal system to deny people of color the right to vote in order to kick them out of office.

So it's no surprise that once again we're seeing an effort to suppress votes in order to protect white supremacy. We must resist.

With that in mind, the earlier we organize to fight back, the better.
