Clearinghouse on Male Circumcision for HIV Prevention

ICASA Satellite: Amplifying VMMC Gains

Dear Colleague,

Recent data on voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) and preliminary results of a landscaping assessment of the sustainability of VMMC programmes will be presented at a satellite session of the 21st International Conference on AIDS and STIs in Africa (ICASA 2021) on Thursday, 9 December, from 13:33 to 14:18 SAST.

This satellite session will highlight the impact of VMMC as an effective HIV prevention intervention, provide key data supporting continuation of VMMC services for male clients 15 and older, and examine essential programmatic considerations for further reducing the risk of HIV infection among adolescent boys and men in eastern and southern Africa. These and other presentations will serve as a catalyst for a panel discussion among VMMC country programme managers, policymakers, and partners on sustainability goals, the impact of COVID-19 in 2021, and programme ambitions for 2022 and beyond.

ICASA 2021 is scheduled to be held in Durban, South Africa, and virtually from 6 to 11 December. Additional information about the satellite session is available in this flyer.

Best regards,

Clearinghouse Webmaster
