The Cook Political Report released its first ratings for Illinois districts this week. Our newly-redrawn district was rated as only "Lean Democratic", which means that we should expect a very competitive race in 2022.
Because of this news, Republican mega-donors and their far-right allies are likely to move fast and invest heavily to flip IL-6. We can't let them gain the upper hand.
We have to be ready to respond to any sudden attacks this month. Can you chip in to help us raise $5,000 by the end of this week?
The GOP is emboldened after last month's elections. They're going to target every potentially competitive seat -- and they especially want to defeat representatives like me who've shown that you can put people first while standing up to special interests.
I've fought successfully to deliver jobs, greater access to transit, and economic relief for my constituents. I've voted to expand voting rights, protect communities from gun violence, and put our country on the path to a cleaner and safer environment. And I've done it all without taking a single dollar of corporate PAC money.
If I get replaced by a hard-right opponent, the Democrats' narrow House majority will be at grave risk, and my constituents will lose the fighter that they need right now. So I'm counting on grassroots supporters like you to drive this campaign to victory.
It's going to take a big team effort to build the operation that we need to prevail in 2022, but I know that we can do it. And early gifts of even just $5, $10, or $20 will go a long way toward helping us hire organizers, reach more voters online, and counter any attacks on the airwaves.
