AFGE urges Congress to avert government shutdown

Calling it "a lump of coal in the stocking of every hardworking American honorably serving their country and every citizen who counts on critical government services," AFGE president Everett Kelley yesterday warned that "A government shutdown just before the holidays would be a Christmas gift to America's global adversaries, who are anxious to exploit every failure of our democratic system of government." With Congress approaching a Dec. 3 funding deadline and the potential of a fourth government shutdown since 2018, Kelley said that "Our members have a simple message for Congress: Stop playing chicken with people's lives and do your jobs."

Labor On The Move: Harrison new PM at CSA's Building Futures program

James M. Harrison II is the new Program Manager for the Building Futures Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program at the Metro Washington Council's Community Services Agency. He previously worked at North Carolina's Department of Health and Human Services in the Communicable Disease/Epidemiology branch and was also a trainer for the state's Regional Bridge Counselor Program. Harrison has an undergraduate degree in Family and Community Services along with a Graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and says that CSA's BF program, which works to increase local residents' access to the building and construction trades, "offers accessibility to opportunities that can create multiple paths to success."
