Folks,

The constitutional right to abortion in this country is in jeopardy. Today,
the Supreme Court heard oral arguments inDobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health
Organization, a case about Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban that directly
challengesRoe v. Wade. But this case isn’t just about Mississippi. It’s part of
a coordinated strategy by anti-choice lawmakers to attack women’s health and
eliminate abortion access.

The Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed the constitutional right to
abortion, and made clear that bans like Mississippi’s 15-week law are
unconstitutional under 1992’s Casey decision that “a State may not prohibit any
woman from making the ultimate decision to terminate her pregnancy before
viability.” Despite strong legal precedent, the conservative Supreme Court
could very well hand down a dangerous decision that burns the constitutional
right to an abortion to the ground. That’s because there is no path for the
Supreme Court to uphold the Mississippi law without overturning the
foundational freedoms underRoe, including the right to decide if, when, and how
to start a family.

If Roe is overturned, we cannot rely on Congressional Republicans to
responsibly honor the Constitution. That’s why I joined my Democratic
colleagues in submitting an amicus brief urging the Supreme Court to block
Mississippi's dangerous and cruel abortion ban. I also proudly co-sponsorthe
Women’s Health Protection Act, federal legislation that would create a
statutory right for health care providers to provide and patients to receive
abortion care. It would end the current attacks from red states on abortion
rights nationwide. House Democrats have already passedthe Women’s Health
Protection Act, and now the Senate must act to preserve and protect
reproductive rights. You can help make this happen by supporting Representatives
who fight for a woman’s right to choose. Can you help me continue this fight in
Congress with a donation of $30 today?

Abortion is health care, and it is beyond me that some folks would cruelly
deny access to a fundamental right. But, I don’t think it’s too late. I hope
you have hope too.

Yours,
Doris
