Today, the conservative-led Supreme Court heard arguments on Mississippi's 15-week abortion ban — a case that could determine the future of Roe v. Wade.

This is not a drill — Mississippi outright asked the Supreme Court to overturn Roe, and the Supreme Court has proven they can’t be trusted to uphold it. Meanwhile, federal legislation to codify abortion rights is stuck in limbo in the U.S. Senate.

There couldn’t be a more important time to elect the first-ever woman physician to the U.S. Senate to help protect abortion rights. I’m ready to get to work, but I can’t do it without you.

This unconstitutional Mississippi law is the most consequential threat to Roe v. Wade in decades, and if it falls, more than half of U.S. states will be poised to immediately ban abortion. More states could end up banning it, too — Pennsylvania Republicans have already introduced four anti-abortion bills this session.

That means, if anti-abortion politicians succeed and Roe is overturned, millions of people won’t have access to critical health care.

To be clear, abortion is health care, as much as certain Republicans would like to tell you it isn’t. But I’d know — I’ve worked as a doctor specializing in women’s health for more than 20 years and I know limiting abortion is a matter of life and death for birthing people.

These choices are deeply personal. I’ve sat down with patients who’ve made difficult decisions about their pregnancies, and I know firsthand that no one should come between patients and their doctors.

I will bring a much needed perspective to the U.S. Senate as the first woman physician and a working mom — fighting every single day to protect and expand abortion rights.
