The $7.25 per hour federal minimum wage is ridiculously low. It’s so low that a full-time worker earning the federal minimum wage can’t afford a two-bedroom apartment in any state. It’s not even enough money to bring a family of two above the poverty line. But 32 million Americans are scraping by on these poverty wages right now.

That’s a national embarrassment, John.
That’s why we’re working with organizations across the country to finally raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour or more. Will you sign our petition calling on Congress to raise the federal minimum wage?

Congress hasn’t lifted a finger to change the minimum wage in 12 years – which is the longest our country has gone without raising the minimum wage since the policy was first enacted all the way back in 1938. Even worse, because of inflation, workers earning the federal minimum wage today are actually making the equivalent of 21% less than minimum wage workers were earning 12 years ago.
Many politicians say that raising wages causes businesses to fire workers or go bankrupt, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Study after study shows that raising the minimum wage actually boosts the economy – because when workers have money, they can spend it at local businesses, creating jobs with their increased consumer demand and stimulating economic growth.
Right now, we’re joining grassroots organizations across the country in calling for a federal minimum wage that’s $15 or higher. We’re building a movement so big that Congress won’t be able to put off raising the federal minimum wage for another year – but we can’t do it without your help. Please, sign on now:

Tell your U.S. senators and House representative to finally raise the federal minimum wage!
