Forward Forward
Hello again,
Well, this could be my last email newsletter to you as your MP. If it is, be assured it's been a real privilege and honour serving you for the last 9 years and if you have given it - thank you for your support.
I am standing in the forthcoming accidental General Election - I say accidental because whatever the vote in Parliament there were very few supporters for it being held in the middle of December!
I am up against the two main parties so it's going to be a tough fight. I am hugely encouraged by all the support and offers of help from Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem and even Leave voters! Thank you all.
Please let me know if you would like to help my campaign.
Parliament will be dissolved next week; my team will continue to work on existing cases and I will communicate with you from my campaign email address.
I hope you enjoy the weekend.
As ever,
Anna

Bennerley viaduct makes world monument 'at risk' list

Bennerley Viaduct has been placed on a prestigious list of monuments at-risk. The 60 foot high railway viaduct near Awsworth is one of 25 sites from across the world nominated for special attention. Others include Easter Island and Notre Dame; Bennerley is the only UK entry on the World Monument Watch List.
Friends of Bennerley Viaduct, who I have supported, and Railway Paths Ltd have secured almost half a million pounds to carry out works which transform the viaduct making accessible to people. I am very pleased that after considerable effort Bennerley Viaduct is at last being restored and recognised as a stunning monument we must treasure and enjoy.
I met the Secretary of State for Justice, Robert Buckland, to discuss the unacceptable lengthy delays in criminal cases coming to trial at Nottingham Crown Court. A combination of flawed thinking in the Ministry of Justice and small short term budget cuts means fewer courts are sitting despite a proliferation of long, complicated but very serious cases. Typically, victims, witnesses and defendants are waiting up to two years for a case to be tried. Robert told me he is confident that the current restrictions will be changed but could give no commitments as to when.

Toton and Chilwell Meadows Drop -in surgery

Thank you to everyone who came along to last Saturday's drop in surgery at Tesco in Toton. Overwhelmingly, constituents came with problems and concerns. My thanks to the area's Borough Councillor Halimah Khaled and County Councillor Richard Jackson for their attendance.
I had planned a similar event in Bramcote later this month with their three excellent Lib Dem Councillors but the General Election has scuppered the event.
Toton resident Graham Heal, who is secretary of the Chetwynd Neighbourhood Forum, was good enough to pop in to Saturday's surgery. You may remember I supported an application by the Forum and Broxtowe Borough Council to get Garden Community status for any future development at Chetwynd Barracks. The application was made a year ago but there has been no response from the Government. I have accordingly written to the Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick. I am grateful for Graham in bringing this to my attention.

Attenborough footpath safety

Network Rail have undertaken to make safe the footpath along Attenborough railway station. Following complaints about broken glass and broken lights, I contacted Network Rail who have cleared the glass and promised to fix the lights. I will keep you updated.

Beeston Square development

I'm very pleased a contractor has finally been found to build the Beeston Square development which will include a cinema, 132 new homes and a number of restaurants. The project should be completed by the end of 2020.

Christmas Card competition cancelled

The General Election means I have to cancel this year's Christmas Card competition. Thank you to everyone who sent in an entry and these are three of the best.
