Friend,
Each month, 35 million U.S. households are receiving an expanded Child Tax Credit, providing families with between $250 - $300 per child. These monthly funds are reducing child poverty by more than 40%, with higher reductions in poverty in Black and Latinx households.
The U.S. House recently voted to extend this expanded Child Tax Credit for another year by passing the Build Back Better Act―which would ensure these monthly funds continue to reach tens of millions of U.S. children, including immigrants. But, if the Senate fails to act to pass the Build Back Better Act this month, these monthly payments will be cut off in January. That would be devastating.
Sign the petition and demand the U.S. Senate act immediately to pass the Build Back Better Act so that 35 million U.S. households can keep receiving the expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit payments in the New Year.
The expanded, monthly Child Tax Credit is currently being distributed to families across the country thanks to the American Rescue Plan―passed by Democrats this past spring and signed into law by President Biden.
It increases benefits to about 90% of families with children, and for the first time, the tax credit now helps families with the lowest incomes—cutting childhood poverty nearly in half.
It would come as a major economic shock if these expanded benefits were cut off right after the winter holidays and just as heating bills are rising for most of the country. Some families could be pushed into homelessness, or be forced to choose between paying bills or getting food on the table.
Let corporate Democrats know that tens of millions of U.S. households are relying on monthly Child Tax Credit payments to survive. Sign the petition demanding the immediate passage of the Build Back Better Act―which is completely paid for by making the rich and corporations pay their fair share.
Together, we’re fighting for policies that unrig our economy and put families and marginalized communities first.
Always serving you,
Rashida
