Indivisibles --

This morning, many of us listened in helpless outrage as our infuriatingly
anti-abortion Supreme Court debated people's fundamental rights to make
decisions about our own bodies and lives. It was clear that the
conservative justices were setting the stage to overturn Roe v. Wade this
spring. That means it's on us to act now to ensure we protect the right to
abortion and the right to choose (more on how below).

The despair we felt today (and the night RBG died, and during the
Kavanaugh hearings, and a few months ago in Texas...) is matched only by
the enthusiasm Republicans feel at having brought us to this point. In one
of our toughest periods in recent memory, Republicans are celebrating
again and again.

Conservative activists and donors have been obsessed with the Supreme
Court for decades, because they know that despite seeming stuffy and dry,
this unelected group of nine has a profound impact on every important
political issue of our time. The Supreme Court’s decision to allow a Texas
law that essentially bans abortion throughout the state to go into effect,
and their apparent willingness to likely uphold a similar 15-week ban in
Mississippi, are the culmination of 50 years of a conservative campaign to
pack our courts with extremists who will stop at nothing to overturn Roe.
Today, they saw their investments starting to pay off.

It’s time progressives start paying attention. 2022 needs to be
progressives’ "Year of The Courts." If we don’t act, we’re looking not
only at the end of Roe v. Wade and the return of illegal, dangerous
abortions for pregnant people nationwide, but also further attacks on
voting rights, immigrants, workers advocating for better conditions, and
other marginalized groups seeking justice. We need to invest in the courts
as deeply as the conservatives have, and do everything in our power to
codify fundamental rights in law, without letting anything get in the way.
And at the same time, we need to abolish Mitch McConnell’s favorite
anti-progress tool, the Jim Crow filibuster, enshrine our rights in law,
and thus limit the power of the courts.

To do that, we need you to do three things:

 1. [ [link removed] ]Read this explainer on fixing the Supreme Court -- and share it
with everyone you know who wants to preserve Roe v. Wade.

 2. [ [link removed] ]Call your senator and tell them to pass the Women's Health
Protection Act, including fixing the filibuster to do it. Democrats
have the votes to pass this bill, if they muster the will. We can't
let them off the hook.

 3. [ [link removed] ]Donate
$10 to
Indivisible Project. Conservative extremists spend literal billions of
dollars to control the courts, and we need to be just as committed.
We’ll spend this money on educating the public, running ads,
organizing, and more, all with the aim of teaching everyone why fixing
the courts and the filibuster matters to them and their lives.

We don’t need to just stop the conservative takeover of the courts or end
the filibuster -- we need to reverse their pernicious effects. Otherwise
all the rights we take for granted -- not to mention the progress we hope
to see -- are on the chopping block. We need you now, more than ever.

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team
