Today, the Supreme Court heard the first arguments in a case — Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization — where they could repeal Roe v. Wade and undo abortion rights across the country.
Let me make one thing clear before I continue:
No matter what happens today at the Supreme Court, I will ALWAYS be a fierce advocate for reproductive justice and the right for people to safely, affordably receive the reproductive care they need.
I can’t help but think of how hypocritical it all is.
Republicans — including Kevin McCarthy — shake their firsts and demand ‘our bodies, our choice’ when it comes to fighting against life-saving vaccines and mandates that would protect people from a deadly pandemic.
But when it comes to the life-altering decision on whether to have an abortion — a deeply personal decision about one’s own body and life — they change their tune.
If the Supreme Court does end up deciding to repeal Roe v. Wade, know this: Republicans will be celebrating the rights they have helped take away from millions of people. They will be celebrating the destruction of essential health care for millions of people — all under the false claim of protecting ‘life’.
With Republicans looking to take back the House next year, there’s never been more at stake to make sure we have folks in Congress who will lead with compassion and protect the people they serve.
I have never been more committed in this fight to defeat Kevin McCarthy.
But, if you can give today, I’m taking a break from fundraising and directing contributions towards the National Network of Abortion Funds, which does incredibly essential work to help people safely and affordably receive abortions.
Chip in what you can and help people across California and the country continue to receive the care they need.
In solidarity and strength,
Bruno
