TODAY: The Supreme Court is hearing arguments on a Mississippi law that bans abortion after 15 weeks with no exceptions for rape or incest.

A ruling in the state's favor would give states the ability to develop their own abortion laws. If this happens, experts predict that abortions would soon become illegal in more than 20 other states. As our basic reproductive rights are at risk of being stripped away, male legislators are wasting NO time to weigh in. Last night, Mike Pence delivered an address calling on SCOTUS to rule in Mississippi's favor.

But here's a question: Why is Mike Pence even talking about this? Why are these decisions being left up to SO MANY MEN? (For example, 5 of the 6 conservative Supreme Court Justices currently deciding the future of our bodily autonomy are men.)

Here are the facts: In 2021, 600 abortion restrictions have been introduced across 46 states, and 100 of those bans have already been passed. We are watching history being made, but in the worst way possible. If Roe v. Wade is overturned – or if abortions become illegal (which, based on the rhetoric of today’s hearing, could very well happen), women will still have abortions: but they’ll have dangerous, life-threatening ones.

We need more women in the rooms where these decisions are being made. We need to replace the men in government who have no place making these decisions for us – with women whose voices and opinions on this subject will come from lived experience.
