Today, the Supreme Court is hearing arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. It is the most consequential abortion rights case in decades.

At the center of this case is Mississippi’s law that bans abortions after 15-weeks. The plaintiffs are asking justices to end the constitutional right to abortion. If the Supreme Court decides to uphold this law, it will gut the core freedoms established in Roe v. Wade.

And the truth is, with the current conservative majority on the Supreme Court, we’re facing a significant headwind. Overturning Roe v. Wade has been a long-standing goal of Republicans — it’s why they were so determined to pack the federal judiciary with far-right ideologues.

Abortion care is health care, and for decades, a clear majority of Americans have understood that and supported access to safe, legal abortions as a constitutional right. This is not a “women’s issue” — it’s something that impacts all of us, so we all need to step up and speak out.

While I hope the Supreme Court will uphold Roe’s precedent, we cannot continue to leave reproductive freedom to chance in the courts. It is time for Congress to codify the right to an abortion nationwide and stop Republicans’ attempts to limit access.

If you agree, add your name today and tell Congress to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act. This bill would immediately codify the right to abortion nationwide and prevent states from imposing unconstitutional restrictions to limit access.

This case is part of Republicans plans to put government in charge of the decisions women make about control of their bodies.

Right now, half of the states in this country are poised to ban abortion entirely if Roe is overturned. That is horrific.

Republicans across the country are going to continue attacking and chipping away at reproductive freedom until Congress acts to codify the right to abortion once and for all.

Will you sign my petition today to call on my colleagues to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act? If Roe is overturned, it will be a devastating blow — with disproportionate harm for the poor and communities of color. It is urgent that we act to protect reproductive freedom in every single state.

We must fight to ensure every woman has the ability to access and afford the health care she needs. As long as access to reproductive health care is threatened, women’s health care is put at risk.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
