I’m sure you’ve seen the news by now, John. Yesterday, three students were killed and eight people were wounded in a mass shooting at Oxford High School in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan.

A 15-year-old, armed with a semi-automatic weapon his father had recently purchased, shot 11 people in less than five minutes. 14-year-old Hana St. Juliana, 16-year-old Tate Myre, and 17-year-old Madisyn Baldwin were killed. Their futures stolen by a gun.

We don’t know all the details of the shooting yet. But we know that Oxford High School has now tragically joined almost 1,900 other K-12 schools in the United States that have experienced a shooting on campus. And we know that in the 22 years since the Columbine High School shooting, Congress has not passed a single major gun safety law.

In response to this tragedy in Michigan, our generous Giving Tuesday sponsor has agreed to EXTEND the match opportunity to midnight tonight. Please, if you’re able, donate today in honor of all victims of gun violence and your gift will go twice as far.

The Alliance was founded in the wake of another tragic school shooting, Sandy Hook in 2012. We’ve been fighting tirelessly since then to put an end to the gun violence epidemic. It is clear that we have so much more to do.

Your support sustains our work and this match is a rare opportunity to have twice the impact. There is no better time to give to support this lifesaving work.

Thank you,
Renée (she/her)
