This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the most consequential abortion rights case since Roe v. Wade was decided almost 50 years ago.
2021 has been one of the worst years for reproductive freedom in our lifetime – and the decision in this case has the power to shape reproductive care for generations to come. It is abundantly clear that we cannot leave our fundamental right to reproductive care to the unpredictable and far-right Supreme Court majority. We need federal protections.

The Women’s Health Protection Act would provide federal protections for reproductive health care broadly and abortion care specifically. Passing WHPA would lift barriers to care that disproportionately harm people of color, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, low-income people, and people living in rural areas, especially in states where outrageous laws that virtually eliminate abortion access are being passed right now.
We cannot let our right to reproductive care be taken away if the Supreme Court were to overturn Roe v. Wade. To prevent the grave dangers that will continue to spread as more anti-abortion laws are enacted, the Senate needs to pass WHPA without delay.
Abortion care has never been at greater risk during our lifetimes than it is right now. To save every person’s right to access abortion care – and the countless lives at risk – we need urgent action in the Senate.
