Annual review met to review priorities in The Meadows ward

Your local Councillors and ward teams and residents met on 30 November to look at priorities in our neighbourhood, including street scene, community safety, employment, health, youth provision and being green. Thank you to everyone who came along!

We also issued small grants of £100 to community groups including - Owd Boots Folk Music, Meadows Cricket, Bridges Community Trust , AMC Gardens, NeMTRA, Burton Manderfield Court residents, Men at Work, Meadows Assoc of Diabetics, Sunday Super, Meadows Foodbanks, Afro-Caribbean Women dinners, Queens Walk Community, Friends of Meadows Library, OMTRA, Meadows Dance, Sherriff Social, MeGA, Meadows scouts.

Christmas Lights switch-on

*On Thursday, December 2nd, The Meadows enters festive mode with the Christmas Tree and Lights switch-on at Bridgeway Shopping Centre. *

The 3 local primary schools - Welbeck, Victoria and Greenfields - will be sending choirs to sing songs both festive and popular. Bridges Community Trust will be putting on a stalls and a grotto and rides for children. 

All welcome, so come along. 

*Then on Saturday, December 11th,* a Christmas Grotto at Meadows Library from 11am to 2pm, following up on the recent successful Fun Day held by the Friends of the library.

*We know that money is tight for many right now. Meadows Advice Group continue to help people looking for support and advice on tackling debt, bills, housing or other issues.*

* *Thanks to volunteers* helping out by planting flowers in the New Meadows, and celebrating local history by planting Nottingham Crocus in The Meadows. 
* We are grateful too to volunteers who are helping with litter picking and weed clearing whilst our street scene staff are directed towards bin collections during the pandemic. *Contact our new Neighbourhood Development Officer, Suki Shergill, on 07860 179267, if you want to help, or indeed join any of the events listed.  *
* *The paddling pool on the Embankment needs replacing*. The basin has been leaking and the pumps have failed - the seventy year old pool is sadly no longer fixable. We know how to apply for the money needed to get the job done, but we will have to consult people as part of the process for bidding.  Details to be announced, but we are keen to explore adding the kind of fountains or splash facilities that are so popular at the Old Market Square. 
* We will also be consulting soon on *extending residents parking permits* to the home zone areas of the New Meadows and streets around Mundella Road and within Mundella Court.
* *Homes for new families remain in demand* and the waiting list for council houses is long.  People are living longer and in smaller family units.  Houses for private rent are fetching far higher rates in The Meadows than we have been used to as the popularity of The Meadows continues to grow. If you are waiting for a home, thank you for your patience - and please continue to bid.
* *Public services have come together for a ward walk* that reviewed actions needed to tackle the most persistent public problems in the ward - such as - loitering and drug taking on private property and alleyways; and graffiti by particular individuals.  
* *Nottinghamshire Police* have charged a number of people after the murder on Wilford Crescent West.  Extra patrols are also taking place in the area.

Staying safe this Christmas

Nottingham City Council’s Trading Standards team are asking Nottingham residents to be careful when buying presents for children:


* *Look for the CE or UKCA mark:* These symbols on the label or box mean the manufacturer has assessed the toy for safety
* *Button-batteries can kill:*  Check they are screwed in firmly and safely before giving to a child
* *Check age restrictions:* Toys must be clearly marked with age restrictions - always follow them, they’re there for a reason

*Pension Credit*

Did you know that over a third of those "entitled" to Pension Credit haven't yet claimed it?  Check now if you are eligible: either use the online calculator [ [link removed] ] or call Age UK Notts on 0115 844 0011.

*Warm Home Discount*

Could you get the Warm Home Discount of £140?  It's for those on low income and certain benefits.  See if you may be able to claim it [ [link removed] ]
