John, Today, the Supreme Court will consider a Mississippi abortion law that directly challenges Roe v. Wade—it’s the most consequential abortion rights case in generations. I want to talk you through exactly what you need to know about this case—and what you can do to protect the fundamental right to reproductive health care. To start, let’s be clear about what’s at stake in this case: Mississippi directly asked the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade. And with a conservative supermajority on the court, that’s a very real possibility. If Roe is overturned, HALF of U.S. states are poised to ban abortion almost immediately, leaving millions across the South and Midwest without access to care. Half. Let that sink in. The impact of these abortion bans and restrictions will fall hardest on those who already face obstacles to health care, including people of color, the LGBTQ community, and low-income families. The single-most important thing we can do, right now, is ensure that Congress passes the Women’s Health Protection Act. This legislation would prohibit state laws that ban abortions or create road blocks to care. Abortion is health care. Full-stop. Thank you for standing with me in this fight. -Kirsten
