Dear John,
I am spending this morning listening to the powerful stories from abortion story tellers outside of the Supreme Court. You can follow the livestream here.
The storytellers are outside of the Court sharing their deeply personal experiences while the Justices are inside hearing a challenge that could impact our right to abortion. We are here today because anti-abortion lawmakers in Mississippi passed a blatantly unconstitutional 15-week abortion ban—and Mississippi brought that law all the way to the Supreme Court to take away our abortion access. This case is about a Mississippi abortion ban—but the decision has national implications, as the State is asking the Court to overturn Roe v. Wade, and decimate our constitutional right to abortion.
No law or court should ever get in the way of people accessing the abortion care they need, when they need it. Fortunately, we have clinics like the Jackson Women’s Health Organization—the ONLY abortion provider in Mississippi—fighting back. No matter the outcome of this case, here’s a list of groups who are always working to protect access abortion in Mississippi and other places in the South:
As we listen to oral arguments in this case, and while we continue to wait for a decision in the Texas (SB 8) case, we know the outcomes will affect all of us. We will never stop fighting to protect abortion access. Because we know that abortion is actually freedom, justice, and dignity.
In solidarity,
