1. NC VALUES: Foster Care Safety Legislation HB 918

Last week, we were overjoyed when the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the bill. This means that this important bill protecting children and their families has passed the State House and two committees in the Senate and is ready for a vote before the full Senate so it can be sent to the Governor for his signature. We cannot wait until next year to make sure babies born to addicted mothers are safe and secure. Their developmental and attachment needs in the first three yearsof life dictate that they be placed in safe, loving homes. This bill needs to be signed into law this year.

This is where we need your help. We've been fighting for this bill since it was filed in April. We now need your help to get the bill get passed before the General Assembly adjourns for the year. But we're running out of time.

Would you consider clicking here to contact your Senator and Representative, and asking them to pass HB 918?

2. N&O: Parents object to Wake school survey that rates students on their emotional health

"Some Wake County parents are refusing to give permission for teachers to conduct surveys that rate and track the behavioral health of their students.

The Wake County school system will have teachers at around 40 schools rate their students on 34 questions, such as how often they’ve appeared angry, expressed thoughts of hurting themselves, expressed strange or bizarre thoughts, appeared depressed or engaged in risk-taking behavior."

. . .

"A.P. Dillon, a conservative blogger and parent at Holly Ridge Middle, complained on her blog and on Twitter that the survey is an invasion of students’ privacy. She said Wake should have required parents to opt-in, instead of opting-out of the survey.

“These are minor children, and the district has no business evaluating them medically or psychologically without the express written permission of their parents or legal guardians,” Dillon said in an interview."

5. ERLC: ERLC President Russell Moore Calls Ky. Supreme Court Ruling on Free Speech 'Good News for Every American'

"The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled in favor of Blaine Adamson, a promotional print shop owner, who declined to print a message on T-shirts that violated his religious convictions.

In its ruling, the state’s Supreme Court unanimously affirmed that the Gay and Lesbian Services Organization did not have a legal right to sue Adamson or his business.

Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, comments on this religious liberty victory:"

WEEKLY PRAYER: LIFE

LORD, we recognize that you are Sovereign over all creation. We recognize you made man from the dust, and in your mercy crowned creation with man and woman made in your image. What a wonder it is that you would bestow upon us this blessing and responsibility!

We pray LORD that we would not take this for granted. We pray that both this great responsibility, and this great dignity, may motivate us to love you more, love our neighbor more, and love ourselves more.

"And Moses said to the people, 'Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of theLord, which he will work for you today. Forthe Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again.TheLordwill fight for you, and you have onlyto be silent.'” (Exodus 14:13-14)

Amen
