Dear Reader,

I’m sure, like me, you have been drowning in fundraising asks from all sorts of worthy organizations — your local school, the neighborhood library, your child’s after-school program. The needs are endless, the outlets all well-intentioned.  

So I’ll just make this quick...Hechinger needs you too!

Nonprofit journalism doesn’t survive without investment from the community. The government isn’t stepping up (nor would we want it to given our role as watchdog and critic). Big philanthropy can’t single-handedly rescue the news industry (and we should be wary of any strings or agendas they put forth in exchange for those dollars).

Nope, we've got to rely on democracy on this front — of the people, by the people, for the people.

I hope you will seriously consider renewing your 2020 support, so that The Hechinger Report may continue to provide in-depth coverage of inequality and innovation in education. The time to do so is now.
