Dear Friend:
There's a lot of good, progressive ideas out there in the
form of action and policy, and today many of those orgs will ask for
your donation on Giving Tuesday, but there's only one national-scale
party calling for a political and class break from the two-party
system as a critical means of achieving those progressive
reforms: the Green Party. If you're like us and
believe it's antithetical to organize for socialism, or even serious
progressive reforms, within a capitalist party, then please donate to
the North Carolina Green Party today. Or better yet, become a
dues-paying member.
Some tough news: We lost our ballot access in early 2021
after having achieved it for the first time in 2018, meaning we can't
run Green candidates in partisan elections till we collect about
15,000 petition signatures on paper. This also means that NC voters
can't register Green right now—the State Board of Elections has
changed the status of all registered Greens to
Unaffiliated.
Some good news, though: We've raised over half of our goal of
$15,000 toward our ballot access fund. Over the Thanksgiving weekend,
because of your contributions, particularly a $500 donation from a
member in Mooresville, Green volunteers were busy stuffing mailers to
all (formerly) registered Greens in Wake County. Can
you all chip in to raise another $500 this week? With
another $500 toward our goal, we can send a batch of envelopes to all
formerly registered Greens in another county like Mecklenburg, and
then to all counties.
These mailers contain a letter from our candidate Joshua
Bradley for Raleigh City Council At-Large, as well as copies of
our ballot access petition, so our supporters can collect some
signatures on their own. If all formerly registered Greens in Wake
County alone were to collect just 20 signatures, we'd easily meet our
signature goal. Can you lend a hand by collecting 20
signatures?
When you sign up at our Petitioning Page, follow the prompts to
join our Slack group, where you'll meet other petitioners and NCGP
officers and learn about petitioning events. We try to pair an
experienced petitioner with newcomers.
Do you have signatures to send to us? Please mail them to

Thanks so much for your continued support!
NCGP Members Involved in Walmart Black Friday Action
On Black Friday, several workers from the Walmart
Neighborhood Market in Mooresville, NC, clocked out, submitted a
petition for better working conditions and benefits to their
management, and then walked out chanting. They were joined by other
coworkers, several NC Green Party members, and supporters from NC
RaiseUp, Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), and other
organizations. Footage from the walkout action received good press
coverage, and social media coverage went viral all across the country,
reaching of hundreds of thousands. The walkout was one of a record
number of Black Friday labor actions as part of a wave of strikes that
have rocked the globe in recent months in the wake of soaring prices
when the world's richest people have seen their wealth skyrocket since
the beginning of the pandemic. Among the demands were better
healthcare benefits, better and more equitable pay for all Walmart
employees, and attention to serious problems that have been hampering
their ability to do their jobs.
Workers who spoke out at the picket line rally said,
“Corporations don’t care enough for the common workers”
and “We’re fed up with being treated as less than we are, and deserve
the respect that we have tirelessly worked for.” Some of
the chants from the enthusiastic picket line
included, “Who's got your back? We got your back,” “Put
some respect on my check,” and “Unionizing is a right!” They sent a
strong and important message to other regional workers in NC, one of
the least unionized states in the
country.
“As a longtime
Mooresville resident, it's very empowering to see my neighbors come
together in this way. I hope that the courage of these brave workers
will inspire others in Mooresville and across the country to stand up
and fight for the respect and dignity they deserve,” said Charlotte
Greens cochair Jacob Samuels. He was joined by NCGP member
Matthew Skolar and cochair Tony Ndege in support of the action.
Skolar, who is also a representative of the Green Party's
Young Ecosocialists youth caucus and helped organize the event, said,
“The action was so powerful because the workers were the ones who led
and initiated it. To say I am proud of these Walmart workers is an
understatement. It’s really brave to take on that Goliath of a
corporation, and these workers did it in such a strong, public, and
eloquent manner.”
The
North Carolina Green Party understands why consumer activism on days
like Black Friday is not enough. It is absolutely necessary that we
support critical labor actions everywhere they take place to stand in
solidarity with workers fighting for dignity, safety, and living
wages. This is the only way we can continue to strengthen connections
between the issues of workers and the systemic demands such as a
comprehensive National Health Service (improved Medicare for All), an
end to the War Machine, and a moratorium on debt.
