The stakes are higher than ever, John.
2021 has been a year of ups and downs. Our climate movement has seen some amazing wins, such as a Dutch court ruling that Shell must reduce its net carbon dioxide emissions 45% by 2030,1 China announcing the end of its support for new coal power projects overseas,2 and more than 20 countries and institutions (including the United States) committing to end direct international public finance for coal, oil and gas by the end of 2022 and prioritize clean energy finance.3
But we've also received several reminders that the worst is yet to come, and that so far, the actions of world leaders have not matched the scale of the climate crisis.4
The truth is that the window to maintain a livable climate is quickly closing. But with the momentum on our side — as made obvious by all our recent wins — this is OUR MOMENT.
