John,
2022 is going to be one of our biggest years ever in the fight to protect our climate, food and water. The Biden administration has yet to prove it will make the bold changes needed to fight Big Oil & Gas and Big Ag, but Food & Water Watch will be there to make sure our leaders do their jobs and protect our communities.
Here are just some of the battles we are fighting — and can win — with your help:
Food & Water Action is working in the courts and before the Federal Trade Commission to stop Smithfield’s greenwashing and false advertising. For years, Smithfield has been polluting our air and water with its seas of hog waste. Its hog factories endanger public health — especially in rural environmental justice communities — while the company has failed to protect its many slaughterhouse workers from COVID outbreaks in its plants.

Earlier this year, we filed suit against the Environmental Protection Agency in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals over the agency’s failure to update factory farm water pollution standards as required by the Clean Water Act. For years, EPA has maintained incredibly lax pollution standards for factory farms.

We are continuing to challenge several of Trump's regulatory rollbacks, including the rule drastically narrowing which waterways are protected from pollution under the Clean Water Act and a rule weakening environmental review of major actions like pipeline approvals.

Food & Water Action doesn’t take corporate money. That independence means we can take bold action to protect our food, water and climate. Our fights and our victories are powered by the generous donations of people like you. Together, we fight like we live here.
While keeping the pressure on the courts, I am confident that if we continue utilizing our winning strategy of working directly with people and communities to organize and demand change, President Biden will listen and take immediate action to protect people and our communities from Big Oil & Gas and Big Ag’s dirty operations.
We have no time to waste. I hope you can help make this GivingTuesday an amazing success. It's your generosity that makes it possible for us to continue to fight for our food, water, climate and communities. The gift you make today will power our fights and victories of tomorrow!
