Dear John,

Today is #GivingTuesday, the biggest giving day of the year. If you are thinking about how you can make a difference, here are three reasons to support The Sentencing Project with a #GivingTuesday contribution:

  1. Nearly 70% of people in prison are people of color.

To reduce racial disparities, we educate legislators about racial impact statements that evaluate the potential disparities of proposed legislation prior to adoption and implementation.

  1. Incarceration has increased by 500% in the last 40 years.

To combat the problems of mass incarceration, we promote policies that divert youth away from the juvenile justice system and reform harsh sentencing laws that keep people in prison for too long.

  1. 5.2 million Americans cannot vote because of a felony conviction.

To empower communities of color who have been disproportionately affected by our criminal legal system, we are working to expand voting rights to all people.

Onwards,

P.S. Want one more reason? Today on #GivingTuesday, November 30, you can triple your impact. All donations received will be matched 2:1 by the Greenbridge Foundation up to $25,000. Help us earn this match today and fight for a more fair and effective criminal legal system.
