Dear John,

San Francisco Transit Riders had a landmark year: we helped secure transit recovery funds for the Bay Area; we made three temporary emergency transit-only lanes permanent; and we built a coalition of students, parents, seniors, labor, and community activists to speak up for transit recovery.

Most importantly, we centered riders’ voices in our advocacy and worked to ensure riders’ voices were at the table in every transit discussion. As part of a national coalition of advocates, we helped secure transit recovery funding in multiple federal stimulus packages. In meetings with federal transportation officials, Senator Feinstein and Speaker Pelosi’s office, our members made the difference, emphasizing why restoring transit service was essential to get them to work, school, medical appointments, and other essential services.

"SFTR has been instrumental in making sure transit riders are heard when important decisions about transit priority improvements like bus lanes are being made”

- Liz Brisson, SFMTA Major Corridors Planning Manager

When the pandemic hit, our members were out in front supporting the creation of Temporary Emergency Transit-Only Lanes across the city. By emphasizing how important transit-first improvements are to riders, we made sure many of those transit-only lanes were made permanent, which improves speed and reliability for riders across the city.

But now, we need to ask our community to help. Our members are our lifeblood, and the reason we do this work. We are asking you to make a donation today and stand alongside us in the fight for transit that provides equitable access to resources, opportunities, and each other.

We need you now because we have big goals, and your donation gives us the flexible funding we need to work on the most urgent transit issues - like restoring Muni service and fighting for transit funding. With your support, we can continue to lift up the voice of riders for more reliable, affordable and growing transit for all.

We know there are a lot of organizations asking for your donation today. What makes SF Transit Riders unique is that we're the only organization in the city working explicitly to lift up the voice of transit riders like you. And bringing the riders' voice to transit issues is essential to a more equitable and sustainable city.

We hope you’ll join us today.

Sincerely,

Zack Deutsch-Gross
Advocacy Director
