John,
If you have a moment, we’d like to tell you why your support of Real Justice is so crucial today — and why we fight so hard to elect people who are committed to ending mass incarceration. We hope you’ll read this whole email and then come back to donate whatever you can to power our work in the months ahead.
This holiday season, we are thinking of all the people who won't be able to spend time with their families this year.
The hundreds of thousands of people who are sitting in jail simply because they can't afford bail.
All the people who should be getting the mental health and substance abuse treatment they need but instead end up in jail.
All the people who are unhoused in one of the richest nations on earth, and all those who are criminalized and sent to jail because they don't have stable housing.
All the innocent people who are stuck in jail because they are wrongfully convicted.
Many of these people are Black and Brown, and they should not be behind bars.
Folks in jail who may not even be able to call their loved ones — the average cost of a phone call from jail can be between $6 to $25! And visitation rights have largely been suspended since the start of the pandemic.
John, the work we do is about reuniting families. Right now, there are thousands of families and loved ones that know someone who is incarcerated and won’t be together for the holidays.
We know we can’t rebuild this kind of appalling system overnight.
But we can fight right now to elect DAs who will fight to reunite these families and end the horror of incarceration. DAs have the power to decrease mass incarceration and help reunite families who have been separated for so long.
John, being able to reunite families torn apart by our so-called ‘justice’ system’ and knowing we are fighting to completely rebuild a system is what keeps up our hope, no matter how long or hard the fight may be.
Thank you for being a part of this movement,
All of us at Real Justice
