Big news on the Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, and Colorado's public lands.? ? ? ? ? ? I'm so excited right now, friend.

Thanks to the work of LCV supporters like you, pro-environment representatives in the House voted to keep Big Polluters OUT of the Grand Canyon, Chaco Canyon, and Colorado's public lands.

For all of us at LCV, these fights are critical to our work in solidarity with the people most impacted by these policies, including the Havasupai, Hualapai, Hopi, and Navajo who have protected and lived in the Grand Canyon for hundreds of years, and the Puebloans whose ancestral structures and sacred lands can be found in Chaco Canyon.

After months of raising your voice and supporting LCV's work to fight Big Polluters from destroying iconic public lands, the House just passed these three historic bills to stop any future attempts to desecrate these lands. Here's more information on each bill: The Grand Canyon Centennial Protection Act (H.R. 1373): This bill BANS uranium mining on one million acres of public lands surrounding the Grand Canyon. Indigenous communities throughout the region are already dealing with the impacts of existing uranium mining near the Grand Canyon and this victory is a huge step to protect their health and water, and helps save the Grand Canyon for generations to come. Chaco Cultural Heritage Area Protection Act (H.R. 2181): This bill will protect Chaco Canyon and its surrounding areas from fossil fuel development and extraction. This region is of crucial cultural and historical significance for the Pueblo people and this is a victory to protect their heritage. Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act (H.R. 823): This bill will preserve hundreds of thousands of acres of majestic public lands that are the backbone of Coloradans' thriving outdoor recreation economy. This victory wouldn't have been possible without the thousands of LCV supporters who spoke out, mobilized, and financially supported our work to push Congress to prioritize the needs of our communities and oppose any future attempts from the Trump administration or Big Polluters to destroy our public lands. When we fight back together, we win.

But the fight isn't over yet. To make these victories into law, the Senate still needs to vote and pass these bills. Mitch McConnell thinks he can stop pro-environment votes from happening in the Senate, but he hasn't reckoned with the power of advocates like us. We're going to need your help to support pro-environment champions in the Senate to make sure this legislation is prioritized, and we'll keep you informed every step of the way.

Thank you for all that you do.
