Child Defender,
It's true that the CDF Freedom Schools® program brings joy to children across the country, but those children bring joy to everyone who has the chance to work with them, too. As a former CDF Freedom Schools program staff once said, "the thing that was so beautiful about it was I went into the role thinking I was going to pour into the youth, but they gave me so much."

The college-aged Servant Leader Interns who serve as teachers at CDF Freedom Schools program sites are forever impacted by their experience in the movement. Time and again, young people come into what they think is a typical summer job and it stays with them for life. The experience of Black joy as resistance is one that our scholars and staff share, and it's truly beautiful.
