John—gun violence has become a part of the fabric of life in our country.
The gun lobby's "guns everywhere" agenda is emboldening armed extremists and putting our communities in danger. We don't have to live like this and our loved ones shouldn’t have to die like this.
The rising threat of armed extremism underscores what we already knew: allowing the open carry of firearms everywhere—especially at demonstrations—is dangerous and life threatening. In fact, demonstrations with a presence of armed groups and individuals, like those found in Kenosha in the wake of the police shooting of Jacob Blake, are nearly six times as likely to turn violent or destructive compared to unarmed demonstrations. That's why a top priority for our volunteers across the country next year will be to roll back dangerous open carry laws across the country.
With an established volunteer chapter in every state of the country and Washington, D.C., our volunteers are demanding urgent action from our elected leaders, engaging with voters to support gun safety at the ballot box, and organizing their own communities every single day to prevent more gun tragedies.
Moms Demand Action and Everytown have never backed down from the hard work it will take to end gun violence—and we need your help to keep our movement strong.
John, we have our work cut out for us next year, and with your support, I am confident that we can create lasting change in 2022. Together, we're creating a future where children no longer have to go through active shooter drills at schools, where guns are no longer the leading cause of death for America's children and teens, and where we can all shop and play and worship and go about our business free from the fear of gun violence.
Thank you for being a part of this movement,
