Dear John,

The premiere of the film Benedetta took place at the British Film Institute in London, on Saturday 16th October and CitizenGO was there to let the film industry know exactly what we think of their blasphemous movie.

We parked three digital mobile advertising vans directly outside the entrance to the British Film Institute to tell movie-goers and the wider general public that mocking Christians is not art!

As you can imagine, the area surrounding the Southbank Centre, where the British Film Institute is located, is a hive of activity on a Saturday night, with people thronging the surrounding streets and restaurants. Our protest caused quite a stir!

Please watch and share the video of our protest!

Many passers-by engaged with the messages on the vans, asking us about the film and then upon learning what it was about, expressed their support.

As we explained to those passing by, Benedetta is loosely based on the life of a 17th century mystic nun, who according to the imaginings of the director, spends most of her life indulging in lesbian sex with another nun.

The film is all about titillation, exploiting and sexually objectifying the female form. It includes sexually graphic scenes that turn important devotional items into sex toys and is designed to cause maximum offence to Christians.

The film-makers would not dare to behave in such a gratuitously offensive manner towards other faiths but they clearly think that Christianity is an easy target.

We were there to show them otherwise. When members of the public discovered why we were protesting, many of them expressed their shock and agreed that the film sounded extremely distasteful.

We attracted the attention of  many of those who were going to see the film and pricked the conscience of one of the film’s promoters who told me that he hadn’t actually seen the film yet, but would bear our points in mind as he watched the movie later that night.

It’s not just Christians who dislike the film - Benedetta has been universally panned by the critics for its depiction of gratuitous sex and violence, that bears no resemblance to the realities of life in a 17th century convent and which ignores the metaphysical issues.

This is not the end of the campaign. Benedetta is going on general release in cinemas across the world over the next few weeks, starting in the United States.

And then moving back to the UK with with the release date to be as provocative as possible, being the 25th March 2022, the date when Catholics celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation (the feast when Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel).

Movie-makers need to know that setting out to offend Christians will lose them money at the box-office.

With thanks for all you do,

Caroline Farrow and the entire CitizenGO Team
