Hello, John! Here is your monthly update from Prevention First about programs, training, resources and prevention news from trusted sources. Presumption is the opposite of Prevention. ― Bhavik Sarkhedi Naloxone NOW Campaign Media kits are live! Campaign media kits for the Naloxone NOW awareness campaign are live on our site. Each kit centers around a campaign phase theme and contains materials for in-office print, social media channels, and web ads. Click the each image to be directed to download the specific media kit document. Phase One: "Emergency Tools" Phase Two: "What is Naloxone?" Drug Take Back Day was a success! While the weather was less than favorable, it didn't stop the community from coming out to Prevention First headquarters for safe disposal of their expired and unused prescription medications. We packed 17 collection boxes full of unused and expired prescription and OTC medication for a combined weight of 303.5 lbs! Alcohol Tax Increasing alcohol taxes at the local level can help communities create social, physical, and economic environments that discourage excessive alcohol consumption, thereby reducing alcohol-related fatalities, costs, and other related harms. Alcohol tax rates have not kept pace with inflation over time and consequently become less effective each year in reducing excessive drinking and alcohol-related harms. In Illinois it is estimated that only 12.2% of the proportion of costs of excessive consumption are covered by the taxes generated at the Federal and State Levels. (Source: The Composition and Magnitude of Alcohol Taxes in States: Do They Cover Alcohol-Related Costs? ) Additionally, it is important to note higher alcohol prices reduce youth consumption. For more information, please see the Alcohol Taxes: An Evidence-Based Strategy that Works fact sheet on the APRC website. Feel free to share these resources with your community leaders!
