“Please keep us in the loop. You guys are extremely knowledgeable, and our boss really wants to know more about this issue. What you do is so incredibly helpful.”
That is exactly what one Congressional staffer said to us just last week. It is what we constantly hear. And we hear it from both sides of the aisle.
It is what EMET is all about. EMET spends much of its time educating Congressional staffers about the TRUE realities of the Middle East, and why the State of Israel is so critically important for the United States and our national security interests in the region.
Particularly now, after our feckless retreat from Afghanistan, there has to be a reliable nation in the region whose superior intelligence and military prowess can be relied upon against the looming Iranian nuclear threat.
Only Israel seems to be the nation with the courage to address that threat.

In our meetings on Capitol Hill, we constantly stress that a nuclear Iran is not simply a threat to Israel, but to the region, the world and particularly the United States, which they refer to as “the Great Satan."
We stress that Iran has developed very close relations with the Maduro regime of Venezuela and that Hezbollah has developed bases in the tri-border region of Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil right under our noses.
As we are writing this, the world powers of Russia, China, France, Great Britain and Germany have assembled in Vienna to discuss returning to the fatally flawed nuclear agreement of 2015. The United States is not even allowed in the room. And Israel, who faces an existential threat from Iran, is not even a party to the negotiations.
We at EMET believe these talks are a fool’s errand. There is no going back. Iran has already violated the agreement to an extent from which there is no return. They have enriched enough highly enriched uranium for at least one nuclear bomb at 60% purity. They have already replaced their slower centrifuges with modern, faster centrifuges, enriching their lethal chemical faster.
And we know that they have cheated, which was brought home so dramatically by the Mossad’s daring raid on a warehouse in the middle of Tehran in broad daylight, from which Israeli operatives brought home volumes of evidence of the Iranians cheating on that deal and previous deals, such as the Nonproliferation Treaty of 1970.
It is brought home by the constant prohibition of inspections from the UN watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from suspicious sites.
Iran wants an easy glide to becoming a nuclear power, which returning to the JCPOA would give them in a few short years. And they want their sanctions lifted up front - just to deign to sit down and negotiate with the Americans. Why reward them with their ultimate objective upfront when this is supposed to be an incentive for the compliance they certainly have not demonstrated?
For Israel, this is an existential threat. On Saturday, Brigadier General Abolfazl Shekarchi said, Israel’s annihilation is is his nation’s “greatest ideal before is and the greatest goal we pursue.”
We are in the midst of a critical education campaign about this with our nation’s policymakers. But we cannot do this alone.
Today is Giving Tuesday. We are asking for your help. Please give as much as you can possibly afford to give us here.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Sarah Stern
